Pennine League Division Two West: Moldgreen 58 Silsden 20
SILSDEN had to wait an extra week for their first game of the season when Boothtown failed to show up, but travelled hopefully to Moldgreen with a full squad of 17 and some new talent in the ranks.
In the event, they were beaten by a young and fit team who had played together in other competitions and were both speedy and well-drilled.
Silsden competed well in the first quarter and both sides scored twice to keep the match level, with Kris Stell bagging a brace, both being converted by Charlie Lowrie. Dan Banks added another Silsden try before the break, this time too far out for the extras to be added.
In the second half the Moldgreen fitness began to tell, and Silsden only managed one more try, this time from Ben Ross.
Despite the one-sided scoreline, there were plenty of signs there is more to come from this side and that coach Chris Greenwood has something to work with as the season progresses.
Silsden host King Cross on Saturday (2.30pm kick-off).
