West Craven Warriors 58 Cowling Harlequins 0
COWLING travelled to Barnoldswick in good spirits after winning the previous week but had only nine players available due to injuries or work commitments.
Quins received the ball from the kick-off and completed the first set but once the Warriors got the ball and spread it wide, Cowling had no cover.
West Craven hit the gas and never really took their foot off the pedal.
Warriors new boy Aiden Lee celebrated his birthday by scoring a hat-trick on his debut.
Jordan Lee was back in a West Craven shirt putting in a big shift for the forwards, while Jack Parry produced some good running and tackling.
Jack Adamson also produced some confident running to get on the try-sheet as did Jim Simmonds, who scored an excellent 60-metre try and made a try-saving tackle against a big Cowling opponent.
Despite the comfortable victory, it was a good test for the hosts’ new players to gain some experience.
Daz Greenwood went closest for the visitors, going over only for the referee to rule out the try.
Despite the heavy defeat, it was a top effort from all the Cowling lads, especially Patrick Smith, Liam Sanctuary and Andrew Scott.
This week Cowling welcome West Craven in the Division Two West return fixture, hoping to have a full squad. Quins train Mondays and Thursdays (7pm) at Merlin Top School if anyone is interested in joining the club.
